Strategic Building Upgrades Yield Big Savings for Texas School District
In a multi-phase project, Mount Pleasant ISD desired to upgrade outdated equipment and building infrastructure to meet budgetary restrictions and limit disturbances in the K-12 learning environment. Usource helped them plan and execute a path forward that could yield large savings while hitting District goals.
Challenge
The project began with a comprehensive feasibility study of existing equipment for nine K-12 schools, encompassing 20 buildings. Some of the HVAC systems were reaching the end of their life-cycle, however, school budgets were limited and no funds were available to replace these aging systems.
Solution
Usource designed and implemented a project that replaced aging equipment, improved the classroom environment and reduced the financial risk to Mount Pleasant Independent School District. The School District could save both energy and money while giving students and faculty brighter light levels, improved classroom comfort and increased security. Project design, analysis and construction was completed after hours and during semester breaks to limit disturbances in the classroom and downtime in critical areas.
Result
After working with the School District on equipment upgrades, such as new cooling towers, the Usource team was able to lower the District’s energy consumption and lower operations and maintenance costs. Over the life of the contract, the District could be able to save $634,939.
Building upgrades included:
- Building management system upgrade
- Lighting retrofit
- Pumping upgrades
- Roof replacement
- High efficiency DX air conditioners
- Football field turf
- Solar PV
- Boilers and cooling towers
